The Chicken and the Pig

Is your Mortgage Lender Committed?A chicken and a pig were walking down the road. Soon they were both very hungry. In discussing what they should eat, the chicken came up with a solution. “Let’s eat eggs and bacon. We have all we need right here!” The pig was not so excited with this suggestion. “For you, it’s a simple donation,” said the pig. “For me, it means total commitment!”

So what has that to do with mortages or ?

I heard this parable earlier today and it got me thinking. What kind of are you working with? Is your a chicken, or a pig?

When it comes to working with a mortgage , you want someone that is totally committed to your success. Many times, agents and buyers rely too much on “chicken” lenders that are quick to offer easy and simple “donations.” However, you may be best served with a more like the pig. One ready and willing to jump in and be committed to make your success their priority.

Realtors and Agents

If your ’s focus in your relationship is simply taking an application on your borrower and closing the loan, then you got you a chicken. They are willing to do the minimum they need to get the job done. Most times they don’t even show up for the closing! They just want you to feed them while they collect their fees.

However, if you are working with a that is committed to helping you achieve the success you want and need, you are lucky enough to have found a pig. A committed to your success seeks any opportunity to send you referrals and leads, will sit with you at an open house, is willing to co-market within their budget, and will seek tools and services that make your job easier.

Borrowers and Home Buyers

If you are working with a that is quick to quote a rate without doing any real homework on you, then watch out. You have a chicken. Too many lenders today will quickly throw out a rate or a program to you with no basis of that recommendation. They do not know you, your goals, your dreams or your circumstances. If they do not take the time to discover your life, how can they offer advice on something that has such a great impact on your life?

Buy if you call a and ask them for their rate, and they start asking you questions instead… you got yourself a pig! This is more interested in finding the RIGHT program for YOU then in finding a quick answer to get your application. They will take their time in asking you questions and learning about what means the most to you. They will discover your situation, and in turn can become that advisor that you can really trust. All because they are committed to you!

So when you are considering a mortgage to work with, remember the Chicken and the Pig. Which would you prefer to be involved with?
